The 12th Annual Hingham Arts Walk will be held on Sunday, October 22nd from 12-4pm. in Downtown Hingham. Come experience the arts throughout Downtown Hingham. Meet South Shore artists in their open studios and at special exhibits. Live music, arts demos, poetry readings, children’s activities and more.
At Old Derby Academy, four local artists will be showing: Joan Brancale, Joan Brancale Fine Arts; Bill Hersey, Hersey Buckets; Bob Mosher, Hingham Harbor Decoys; and Jill Powell, Main Street Studios.
Main Street Studio is a small home-based art studio specializing in creating custom pieces. Nautical designs are a favorite as the owner, Jill Doherty Powell, a Mass College of Art and Design graduate and a life long resident of the South Shore, is heavily influenced by the ocean and the island of Nantucket~and a love of whales~.
World-class bird carver Bob Mosher will be roughing out birds in our Visitor Center at 34 Main Street during ArtsWalk 2017.
As a teenager in Hingham, Bob fell in love with the classic New England style decoys, and that love developed into a passion as he grew older, carved with, and learned from some of the best traditional carvers on the East Coast.
The decoys produced by the early Massachusetts carvers heavily influence Bob’s carvings. He works in northern white cedar using a variety of drawknives, hand knives and rasps and usually finishes the carvings with oil paints. The birds are then rubbed down to produce a mellow antique patina.
Artist Joan Brancale will be working at Old Derby during ArtsWalk 2017 on October 22nd. A painter and muralist with an MFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the arts, Joan is represented by Gallery Antonia in Chatham. She is juried Artist Member of the Copley Society of Art and a juried Gallery Artist at Cape Cod Art Association and South Shore Art Center.
