Day 629 Scituate Heritage Days and Carnival 2013

Scituate  Heritage days will be held on Friday  August  2nd through Sunday August 4th.   The annual event combines live music and entertainment, a 2 day carnival midway  artisan crafts, kid’s activities and historical site visits for one of the South Shore’s biggest and most anticipated outdoor events of the summer.  

In addition to the many vendors at Heritage Days, Scituate Harbor boasts many retail shops, businesses and restaurants. You can find nautical and whimsical gifts shops along with stylish retail clothing stores. Some of the restaurants  feature outdoor casual seating where you can enjoy the spectacular views of Scituate Harbor.

 

Friday August 2

4 P.M. First Friday Night moves outside. Various specials and sidewalk sales throughout Scituate Harbor.

6 TO 8 P.M. Harbor United Methodist Church Pie Social; 55 First Parish Road.

8:30 P.M. Luminaria along Scituate coastline.

Saturday August 3

7:30 TO 10:30 A.M. Scituate Rotary Club serves traditional Pancake Breakfast at St. Mary’s Parish Center, 14 Edward Foster Road, Scituate Harbor. Proceeds for local charities. Cost is $6 per adult ticket, $3 for children age 6 to 10, children younger than 6 free. Tickets available at door.

9-10 A.M. Opening ceremonies at Cole Parkway and Otis Place.

9 A.M.-5 P.M. Front Street and Cole Parkway: Artisans, amusements, refreshments, music, children’s activities and sidewalk sales.

9:30 -10:15 A.M. Toe Jam Puppet Band: A zany and exuberant free family concert at the bandstand on Cole Parkway. The unique musical performances are interactive and theatrical.

10 A.M. Jack Conway Real Estate sponsors a homemade baked goods sale at 80 Front St. to benefit the American Cancer Society.

10 A.M.-6 P.M.  Carnival Rides for the whole family from North American Amusements.

10 A.M.-5 P.M. Children’s Art Workshop Tent located outside South Coastal Bank. Sponsored by the Scituate Chamber of Commerce and Scituate Art Association. A variety of activities for children and teens; murals, collage and painting activities led by SAA member Kathy Mogayzel.

10:30 A.M. The Scituate Skippers Double Dutch Jump Rope Club demonstration at the bandstand on Cole Parkway. This nonprofit group will perform the art of double dutch.

11 A.M. Boat races at Jericho Beach. Races for kayak, dory, working boat, slide seat, and under age 18. Special races for children.

11 A.M. Border Road performs on Otis Place.

NOON Ronnie Lewis of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Performs on Otis Place.

1:30 P.M. The Fools perform at Otis Place.

3 P.M. Danny Klein, bass player of J. Geils Band, with his “Full House” J. Geils Review performs on Otis Place.

4 TO 6 P.M. Traditional Pig Roast at Knights of Columbus, 234 CJC Hwy., Route 3A, Scituate. Music by Dogtown

4:30 P.M. Atlanta Rhythm Section (to be confirmed) on stage at Otis Place.

Sunday August 4

9 A.M.-5 P.M. Front Street and Cole Parkway: Artisans, amusements, refreshments, music, children’s activities, sidewalk sales. Fun for all.

9 A.M.-5 P.M. Children’s Art Workshop tent located outside South Coastal Bank. Sponsored by the Scituate Chamber of Commerce and the Scituate Art Association. A variety of activities for children and teens. Murals, collage and painting activities.

10 A.M.-5 P.M. Carnival  Rides for the whole family from North American Amusements.

10 A.M. Toni Lynn Washington will perform on Otis Place.

NOON James Montgomery Band with special guest Barrence Whitfield and the Uptown Horns performs on Otis Place.

1 P.M. Boat Parade/Blessing of the Fleet. All welcome. Boats line up at bell outside Harbor. Any and all boats are welcome.

2 P.M. The Low Rider Band performs on Otis Place. Four original members of the band W__, including Lee Oskar on harmonica. Hit include: “Spill the Wine,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” “Low Rider.”

4 P.M. Dave Mason, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, will perform on Otis Place. Along with Steve Winwood, Mason was one of the original founders of the group Traffic. His numerous hits include “So High (Rock Me Baby and Roll Me Away)” and “We Just Disagree.”
