Woodward School for Girls Summer Institute 

Summer Program 2024

June 24 – 28th, July 8 – 19 and July 22 – August 2

Woodward’s Summer Institute is the perfect place for girls entering grades 5th – 10th to unleash their creativity and explore their interests through in-depth courses. Students will have the opportunity to dive deep into projects they are excited about as well as discover new passions. Courses include Theater, Robotics, Digital Art and more!
 
Woodward Summer Institute is a day program that runs daily from 8am – 2:30pm. Our sessions have spaces for 8 students to start, but if there is a lot of interest in a particular class we may increase that number and number of instructors teaching it. We welcome Woodward and non-Woodward students to join us. Our students come from all different schools and towns to spend the summer with us. Our courses are $400 per week per student. Our registration deadline is May 31st and we anticipate spots filling up fast. Make sure to register soon!

SESSION 1

Improv Intensive | Session 1 | June 24th – 28th | $400

This one-week improv intensive class is designed to help students find their voice. Through a range of fun and engaging activities, participants will learn the fundamentals of improvisational theater, including character development, scene building, and teamwork. The class will be led by experienced and supportive instructors who will encourage each girl to embrace her unique creativity and voice. By the end of the week, participants will have gained new skills, made lasting friendships, and developed a newfound sense of confidence both on and off stage.

Storytelling Intensive | Session 1 | June 24th – 28th | $400

This one-week creative writing and storytelling class is designed to inspire girls to express themselves through words. The class will cover the fundamentals of storytelling, including plot, character development, setting, dialogue, and conflict. Students will have the opportunity to practice these skills through various writing exercises and group discussions. In addition to honing their writing skills, students will also learn how to give and receive constructive feedback on their writing. By the end of the week, students will have a better understanding of the power of their voices and how to use them to tell compelling stories.

3D Fabrication Intensive | Session 1 | June 24th – 28th | $400

This one-week 3D modeling and 3D printing class is designed specifically for students who are interested in exploring the exciting world of digital design and fabrication. Through hands-on activities and expert guidance, students will learn the basics of 3D modeling using popular software tools, and develop their skills by creating custom designs. They will also gain experience with 3D printing technology, learning how to prepare designs for printing and operate a 3D printer. The class is taught by experienced instructors who are passionate about encouraging young women to explore STEM fields and pursue their interests in technology. By the end of the course, students will have a solid foundation in 3D design and printing, and a collection of their own unique 3D creations to take home.

Minecraft Redstone Intensive | Session 1 | June 24th – 28th | $400

This one-week Minecraft’s redstone system class, which is a simple modeling of real life electrical circuits, is designed specifically for students who are interested in learning more about the game and its mechanics. Over the course of the week, students will learn the basics of Minecraft, including how to gather resources, build structures, and the use of redstone to create complex contraptions and machines. With the guidance of experienced instructors, students will have the opportunity to collaborate on projects, experiment with different designs, and share their creations with others. By the end of the week, students will have an introductory understanding of Minecraft’s redstone system and electrical circuits by extension, as well as the confidence to continue exploring and experimenting on their own.

SESSION 2

Theater Exploration | Session 2 | July 8th – 19th | $800

This two-week theater course is designed for students who are interested in exploring various aspects of theater production. The course will cover acting, set design, costume design, lighting design, and all other technical aspects of putting on a theater production. The girls will learn how to create a cohesive vision for a play, design and build sets, design and create costumes, and use lighting to enhance the mood and atmosphere of a production. Additionally, the girls will have the opportunity to hone their acting, performing and singing skills as they put on a full production. By the end of the two-week course, the girls will have a comprehensive understanding of the various elements involved in creating a successful theater production and will have gained valuable skills that they can apply in future productions, no matter their position in the future.

Digital Art Exploration | Session 2 | July 8th – 19th | $800

The two-week digital art course is designed for students who are interested in exploring their creativity and learning new skills in the field of digital art. The course focuses specifically on using Procreate, a popular digital art software, on iPads, to create stunning pieces of art. The course covers various topics such as using Procreate tools, creating digital paintings, sketching, coloring, and adding special effects. The girls will have the opportunity to learn from experienced instructors and collaborate with each other to create unique and beautiful art pieces. By the end of the course, the girls will have gained a deeper understanding of digital art, developed their skills in using Procreate and have a portfolio of digital art ready to be shared.

Video Game Design Exploration | Session 2 | July 8th – 19th | $800

This two-week course exploring the basics of video game design is specifically designed for students with an interest in how video games take shape. Over the course of the program, students will learn the fundamental concepts of video game design, including basic programming concepts and software. The course will cover topics such as game mechanics, level design, character development, and storytelling. Students will also learn about game engines and how they are used to develop different types of games. Throughout the course, girls will have the opportunity to work on their own projects, applying their knowledge and skills to design their own video games. By the end of the program, students will have a solid understanding of how video games are built and the foundation laid for their future video game endeavors.

Minecraft Redstone Exploration | Session 2 | July 8th – 19th | $800

Art Open Studio Exploration | Session 3 | July 22nd – August 2nd | $800

This two-week course is an opportunity for students to unleash their creativity and express themselves through various art mediums in an open studio environment. The program provides a supportive and inclusive environment where young artists can experiment with different techniques and materials such as painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking and more. Participants will have access to a fully equipped studio and receive guidance from experienced instructors who will encourage them to explore their unique artistic voice. By the end of the two-week course, girls will have developed their technical skills, gained confidence in their abilities and made new friends who share their passion for art.

Robotics Exploration | Session 3 | July 22nd – August 2nd | $800

The two-week robotics course is designed to introduce students to the exciting world of robotics and computer programming. The course will cover a range of topics, including robotics basics, design and construction, use of sensors and actuators, and programming. Girls will have the opportunity to work in small teams to design and build their own robots, and learn how to program them to complete a variety of tasks. Participants will have access to a fully equipped computer lab and guidance from experienced instructors who will encourage them to explore and challenge themselves. By the end of the course, the girls will have gained valuable skills and knowledge that will prepare them for future studies and careers in robotics and technology.

Stars South Shore Day Camp 

Stars South Shore Day Camp is affordable for working parents! Camp provides breakfast and transportation. A professional, experienced staff and on-site directors carefully plan age-appropriate activities.

Quincy YMCA day summer camp

South Shore YMCA Camp Quirk is our traditional Y summer day camp located at Quincy Hale  YMCA and Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy.

Now, more than ever, kids need outdoor activity and the connections of camp. At South Shore YMCA Camp Quirk, children build memories that last a lifetime, in a place where they truly belong. Y camp is a place for kids to make friends, build character and actively explore their imagination. Our extensive variety of programs provides a summer adventure for everyone.

South Shore YMCA Camp Quirk offers day camps located at the Hale Family YMCA (Quincy) for ages 4 years old to those entering 1st grade and onsite at Eastern Nazarene College for campers entering 2nd grade and above.

we will have 7 weeks available this year and there are 4 options for camps each week. We have camps for ages 6-18
🟣once we get to almost full capacity week by week, we put out our single day options. Mid April is usually when availability begins to close
🟣this summer we will have an option to opt in or opt out of fabric being included. If you do not choose to include fabric you will have to bring ideas and materials with you for each day.

Summer Program – Quincy Catholic Academy

Quincy Catholic Academy is delighted to offer a comprehensive, fun-filled Summer Program for students entering PreK- grade 6. The Program is designed to run for 8 weeks (from mid-June to mid-August). Families may choose to tailor-make their enrollment options (daily, weekly or for the length of the entire summer program).
