Day 908 New Bedford Working Waterfront Festival 2014

The 11th  annual Working Waterfront Festival will be held on Saturday September 27th and Sunday September 28th on    Pier 3, State Pier and Steamship Pier in New Bedford. This is a free, family-friendly, educational celebration of New England’s commercial fishing industry held. Featuring live maritime and ethnic music, fishermen’s contests, fresh seafood, vessel tours, author readings, cooking demonstrations, kid’s activities and more.New Bedford Working Waterfront Festival 2014

Tour commercial fishing boats, tugboats, Coast Guard Vessels and historic vessels.
Listen to the fishing community share stories of their lives, skills and experiences.
Watch demonstrations of net mending, trap making, fish filleting and more.
Enjoy performances of music, dance, poetry, and theater.
Hear maritime authors read from their works.
Try your hand at knot tying, net mending and other skills.
Walk in the fisherman’s boots for a day. . .

See demonstrations by galley cooks, fisherman’s wives and local chefs.

Love Iron Chef, Top Chef and other cooking competitions?

Join us on Sunday, 9/28 at 3:30 Foodways Area/Pier 3 to watch Vera Carvalho (representing the Port of New Bedford) face off against Angela Sanfillipo (representing the Port of Gloucester)!

Vera and Angela can bring 3 ingredients from home. The secret seafood ingredient will be revealed to them then they will each receive $25 and 15 minutes at the Farmers’ Market to purchase items for their dish.

One hour later, they present their dish to our judges Margaret Curole, Charles Coe, Audi Guha, and Maria Lawton.

The Throwdown is presented in partnership with the Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance and the Festival.

Harbor Tours are offered at a discounted rate during the Festival weekend. Food and beverages are available for sale with proceeds benefiting the Working Waterfront Festival.
